A Prayer for God's Kingdom

Mighty God, we pray in the Lord's Prayer "Thy kingdom come."

These are precious words for all your people.

It is our prayer that Satan's kingdom may be destroyed; and that your kingdom may prosper.

We remember how your Son, when he was among us in the flesh, preached the Kingdom of God as a mystery, as that which both is now and is to come.

He said, "the kingdom of God is within you" (Luke 17:21), which tells us that the kingdom of God is not just about nations and countries, but about us.

The kingdom of God is the most personal thing in the world.

It is our personal decision to become citizens of your kingdom and to accept you, 0 Lord, into our lives.

We remember that old prayer which says: "Lord, revive your church, beginning with me," and we know that to pray for your kingdom to come is to pray that same prayer.

It is to pray that our lives may be revived by having your kingdom come into our hearts.

Yet the kingdom of God is not only for our hearts here and now, it is also for the future.

Now in a sense, 0 Lord, you are hidden from your world, but when Christ comes again, you shall be fully revealed, and that revelation will transform the world so that sin and evil are finally destroyed.

We look forward then to the Second Coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in power and glory.

We look forward to that day of resurrection when all life will be made new again.

We look forward to the new age of peace and love.

So we pray, Lord, that you will come into our hearts now and that you will come into your world soon.

Our prayer is the last prayer of the last book of the Bible, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus" (Rev. 22:20). Amen.
